Able Muse is hosting a reading with the authors of The Powow River Poets Anthology II on Sunday, June 27 from 3-4PM EDT. The anthology was published by Able Muse Press in January 2021.
The Powow River Poets are a gathering of widely published, award-winning New England Poets, centered in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Their members are also from the Boston area and as far away as New York and Maine. 27 of these writers, including Rhina P. Espaillat, A.M. Juster, and Deborah Warren, are represented in the second edition of this anthology.
The reading is hosted by anthology editor Paulette Demers Turco and features Rhina P. Espaillat, Michael Cantor, M. Frost Delaney, Jean L. Kreiling, Alfred Nicol, and Anton Yakovlev. There will also be a Q&A session with the editor and authors.
The reading is free to attend via Zoom, but you do need to RSVP.
Literary magazine Obsidian: Literature & Arts in the African Diaspora, edited by Duriel E. Harris, is now the host and curator of @Salon. Founded in 2011, @Salon is an interdisciplinary event welcoming artists and art enthusiasts to come together for conversation, poetry, spoken word, music, sound, performance, and visual and digital art. Obsidian‘s @Salon welcomes Black writers and artists and their allies to come together for conversation and exchange.
This year’s event QPlayaz|QPride @Salon 2021 will take place virtually viz Zoom on Tuesday, June 22 starting at 5:30PM PT/7:30PM CT/8:30PM ET.
Interdisciplinary artist and writer Ronaldo V. Wilson is the Play Leader and Playaz include Vidhu Aggarwal, Lucas de Lima, Dawn Lundy Martin, and Angela Peñaredondo. This event launches Obsidian‘s call for Genderqueer/Genrequeer Playground special issue curated by Wilson with an interactive poetry reading and mixed-genre queer conversation.
QPlaya-ground will feature rounds of verbal four square, double d-iz-utch, and tag between participants. RSVP here (did I mention it’s free?).
Whether you can run a marathon doesn’t matter, since this marathon is about writing poetry! And while it’s all community and no competition, that doesn’t mean it’s “easy” to complete. To cross the finish line, participants must write one poem every hour for either 12 hours for one of the two half marathons or 24 hours for the full marathon. Prompts are provided but don’t need to be followed, and it is okay to ‘catch up’ if you can’t post on each hour, but there is no advance posting. Each participant posts their poems on a WordPress login within the group site and can read and respond to others’ poems.
This event is not for the flippant – “Oh yeah, maybe I will try it…” In order to register for the event, you must explain what you plan to do to ‘prepare’ yourself for the day. After several years of completing the half marathon, I have learned it works best to clear my schedule for the day, plan to only do work around the house, and check in at the top of every hour for the new prompt. Sometimes I can respond quickly, and other times, I need more think time, which means setting an alarm to remind myself to post before the hour is up. It is indeed a commitment, and can feel stressful and frustrating at times, but the sense of accomplishment is worth it – having a dozen or two new poems and interacting with about 500 other like-minded poetry lovers from around the globe!
Registration if free and open until June 19. The marathon takes place Saturday, June 26 starting at 9am in the morning. The half marathons run from 9am to 9pm or 9pm to 9am, and the full marathon runs from 9am Saturday until 9am Sunday.

The National Writing Project has long been a source of support for writing teachers (K-12+), providing programs where teacher-leaders work with local teachers on developing approaches to teaching writing as well as engaging in their own writing practice. Those who have local chapters benefit from the professional development and community programming, but now NWP is expanding that opportunity by introducing an online space for teachers to connect and collaborate with writing teacher colleagues.
Write Now Teacher Studio will open on June 3, 2021, and NWP invites teachers to join a live launch event through mobile app or the web. The Write Now Teacher Studio will let teachers connect and collaborate around specific topics of interest in their teaching, attend events about writing and teaching writing, join groups to address challenges, take courses designed by experienced writing teachers, and create or join reading and writing groups.

Hippocampus Magazine and Books has announced that they will be hosting their annual 3-day creative writing conference this summer in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
If you haven’t heard about HippoCamp before, it is geared toward creative nonfiction writers of all skill levels and backgrounds and is formatted “in the style of a professional development, industry conference.” They feature solo presenters passionate about their topics rather than panel discussions. There you can hone your craft, explore publishing options, and find ways to balance your writing and real life while meeting new friends to learn from and share with.
This year’s conference will take place August 13-15, 2021.
They offer additional pre-conference workshops you can apply to as well as add-ons, like book sale space. As of this writing there are 102 spots remaining, so if you’re interested in nonfiction and learning more and honing your craft, don’t forget to register soon.
English as a second language literary magazine Tint Journal will be hosting a virtual reading “Tinted Tales: reading across cultures” on Saturday, May 22 at 7PM (CEST). This international, multicultural, and cross-genre event will be broadcast live from many parts of the world via Tint Journal’s YouTube Channel.
The event will be moderated by Lisa Schantl (Editor-in-Chief) and Matthew Monroy (prose editor). Tint authors Catia Dawood, Satvik Gupta, Marlene Lahmer, Héctor Muiños, Chourouq Nasri, and Iva Ticic will be taking the virtual stage along with spoken word artist Seher Hashmi who successfully applied to an open slot.
The event will be musically accompanied by Soulparlez, a female-only a cappella ensemble.

Literary magazine Creative Nonfiction has currently announced their Spring 2021 courses. They are offering a total of 12 to help people achieve their writing goals.
Currently available courses are the Creative Nonfiction Boot Camp (5-week or 10-week); Thirty-Minute Memoir; Advanced Historical Narratives: Crafting the Best Material; Advanced Memoir: From First Sentence to Resolution; and Advanced Personal Essay: Finding a Way Through. The advanced courses do require you meet pre-requisites before enrolling.
These classes are offered completely online and will run April 12 through June 20, 2021.
Literary magazine Able Muse is celebrating the release of its new print edition with a virtual reading and Q&A session with the contributors and authors of Issue Number 28.
The event is hosted by poetry associated editor Nicole Caruso Garcia and will include fellow editors Alexander Pepple, Richard Wakefield, Karen Kevorkian, and N. S. Thompson. Last year Hippocampus Books released Rebecca Fish Ewan’s Doodling for Writers which is filled with “wit and wisdom with practical, engaging prompts and activities to illustrate how simple sketching can get you over hurdles, bring back memories, and even provide a roadmap for where your story needs to go.”

Seasoned poetry editors Dara-Lyn Shrager and Rachel Marie Patterson will be leading this interactive and dynamic workshop dedicated to guiding writers through a fresh start on their poems. Registration officially opened on November 30. Cost for the workshop is $250—space is limited.
Poor Yorick is an online literary journal edited and published by the MFA Program in Creative and Professional Writing at Western Connecticut State University. Their focus is on rediscovering the past through objects, memories, relationships, traumas, cultures, and ghosts (literal and figurative) and to celebrate the joy, fear, hardship, and wonder of being human.
They are continuing their monthly reading series with a virtual open mic and fireside chat on December 17 from 7-9 PM. This will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and you can contact the Poor Yorick team for an invitation. The theme for this reading is “Year End.”
The editor will be on hand at the open mic to talk submissions, too, in case you’re interested in submitting fiction, nonfiction, poetry, digital art, photography, and other innovative works.

Mudfish founding editor Jill Hoffman leads a combined workshop of poetry and fiction in Tribeca, New York. These workshops are open to writers of all levels and are now being conducted virtually via ZOOM. Writers get to read aloud each week and give and receive honest and constructive criticism.
